‘The Cabinet, Rosa,’ she said, ‘is a museum of things that have been lost, or forgotten.’
‘But aren’t all museums-’
‘Things from other times.’ continued the dog patiently. ‘Other worlds.’
‘Do you mean other planets?’ asked Rosa. The dog sighed.
‘Hard to say. Certainly other planes, only accessible to those who know the right doorways, or enchantments. Some of the objects were thought to have existed only in fairytales, stories for children. We don’t know where many came from at all. Others come from places that no longer even exist.’
"'Cabinet,' recited the Duke: '(1) a small private room or closet, case with drawers, etc., for keeping valuables or displaying curiousities; (2) council room for chief ministers of state; (3) a body of official advisers to the chief executive of a nation.'"
The Phantom Tollbooth
In the forgotten seaside town of Walmington-on-sea, tucked away between the chip shop and the monument to the Home Guard, lies a great and secret treasure, a museum holding the finest collection of literary objets fantastiques to exist in any one reality: the Curious Cabinet.

Rare ‘Soul Marbles’ from the Cabinet’s large collection of Jewellery and rare gems.
Most of the collection is pre-WWII, though objects continued to be added to the museum’s collection up until the mid ‘60’s. A number of artifacts were taken from Elseworlds shortly before they were closed to travellers forever (Narnia being one example) and are often a little battle-scarred as a result.
